Yeah, Fall is coming!

This weekend we started working on our fall decorating thanks to Em. Check out her Apple artwork.

I was so impressed by her ability to color in the lines for the leaf and stem. I had no idea she could do that. Lately she's been drawing and cutting plain white paper instead of coloring in pictures.

Here she used an apple that was cut in half to make apple prints.

Pleeease can I do a project?

Today Em's Best Buddy in the Whole Wide World, as she likes to refer to him as, Aiden came over for the day. It's so cute when they get together and run all over the place. Well Em was begging me to do a project so I pulled out a few things that I was using for my kindergarten class and threw something together for them. I gave them each a large paper heart doily and tissue paper squares. I let Em use the glue stick herself to glue the pieces on. She loves the simplest things and is so proud of all her projects. She couldn't wait to hang it up on the front door and insisted that Aiden hang his up too. I came up with the idea of hanging her artwork on the door using clothespins that I attached magnents to. That's how we displayed the Christmas cards we received this year and thought that we'll continue with her artwork. Here she is busy at work. And the final masterpieces.....

Cold Days

So school was canceled yesterday and today for the frigid temperatures we've been having. Yesterday was a family day since John was off too. I put together a project for Em and she absolutely loved it! Check her out hard at work. Her snowman looks great. She is definitely a good gluer. She is so proud of her snowman. When she finished she raced downstairs to grab John so he could see it!

Then today I decided to venture out with her. A few weeks ago, Em accidentally dropped her piggy bank (the one she painted at Fired Up last August.) So I decided to take her back to make a new one. John wanted us to get a bigger bank but Em really wanted a fish one so that's what she got. Em piked out what colors she wanted. She wanted her fish to be green so I painted the base coat for her and then she went to town. Check out the mouth. She painted the lips and smile all on her own without any prompting. And when she was done, I did the finishing touches by adding the eyes. It is so cute I can't wait to see it next week when I can pick it up.I also used today as a way to get caught up on my blogging. It's been a while since I've put anything up. The thing is, I usually use the laptop upstairs and write my posts and then save them until I have time to upload some pictures on my PC. I've really got to get better and doing that on a regular basis so they don't all pile up on me. ;) Happy Reading!

Snow Day

No School TODAY! We got pounded with snow, 12 inches from midnight to 9:00 this morning! So after John and I spent 2 hours clearing the cars and sidewalks Em and I had a homebound day of fun and relaxation. Emily was a little artist again today. Em had picked out some little plaster ornaments at the craft store last week and I thought today would be a great day to paint them. I couldn't believe how patient she was. She took her time and tried so hard. Just look at her great fine motor skills at work. She's able to hold the paint brush correctly and steadily. She was so proud of them and couldn't wait to show John!

Gingerbread Fun!

Tonight we went to an RFC craft night and made a cute little gingerbread house. Emily was so excited to see her friends! (And loved eating the candy!) We used graham crackers to make the base of the house and then added frosting and candy to decorate it. I think I got a little too carried away with it and took the "design element" from Em but she seemed happy with letting me lead :) I think we're going to have to make a big one at home so she can be in charge :)
